The Evolution of an Idea

Between Worlds

In the annals of art history, no one has ever attempted to depict the world history of democracy--no one, that is, until The Center for the Evolution of Democracy and Syntropic Villages signed a contract with noted artist T. Scott Sayre.

The above photo, taken by Mr. Sayre, aptly symbolizes the lift-off of The Global Democracy Mural Project. We are still in the planning stage--between two worlds--rather like the idea of democracy being somewhere between its early realizations and its ideal forms. The mural will be based on a series of panels that fit together to form one large mural with a golden ratio of height to width. Expected to be approximately 6 meters high and 10 meters long, it will contain up to three hundred smaller scenes nestled into layers of larger images representing significant events in the evolution of democracy.

The work is underway. Scott has nearly finished his first panel depicting the origins of human life and early steps in the long march toward our ideal of an authentic, global democracy. Here is a close-up of the artist T. Scott Sayre's vision of our mysterious birth and first, joyful steps:

Scott explains one of his several, early sketches of the mural:

Here the artist discusses progress on the second panel with one of his favorite helpers:

Kiel pentri "demokration?" How does one paint "democracy?" Young artists who wish to learn while working are invited to join T. Scott Sayre as he creates this history-making mural.

A few close-ups from the unfinished second and third panels:

Syntropic Villages welcomes suggestions regarding both content and form. We want to illustrate important events from the stories of many peoples and cultures--and from every continent.

Please Help! We need funds to complete The Global Democracy Mural Project and it's mural entitled The Evolution of an Idea. The project involves more than the mural. A video and two books are underway describing the mural and the views of T. Scott Sayre on his art and its relevance for life in the modern world. We believe this mural will provide encouraging feedback to people around the world who are working, sometimes at great sacrifice, to achieve more democratic societies. We hope that it will stimulate confidence that people from all walks of life can further our evolution toward a global system that will significantly reduce violent conflicts, address economic imbalances, and enhance trade on fair terms among all peoples.

Contributions to support this project and/or the Center's other work will be gratefully accepted and will be applied entirely to the purposes and projects described in these pages. If you wish to play a role in bringing about this historically important mural, and receive an 8.5"x11" print of your choice made from any portion of the mural, please send a check for $50 or more payable to Syntropic Communities USA Ltd. Prints signed by Mr. Sayre, thanking you for your contribution, will be sent to all who can help during this most critical phase of the work:
