Caravan 2002:
The Quest for Democratic Renewal

Caravan 2002 will be a trek across America from San Francisco to Washington, D.C. in the year 2002. We will stop in towns and cities across the country to hold meetings, perform theater, sing songs, and discuss renewal of the democratic process. The trek and all discussions and performances will be videorecorded. Selected tapes will then be made available to schools and libraries in order to stimulate further discussion and greater participation in what we hope will be both a renewal and an evolutionary advance in the practice of democracy.

The principle themes will be simple: new strategies for multiracial representation, campaign finance reform, lobbying law, term limits, media reform, environmental protection, corporate reform, educational curriculae, and global security. The Center for the Evolution of Democracy is seeking co-sponsors to help bring this project to fruition.

The Center for the Evolution of Democracy welcomes suggestions regarding any and all aspects of this project. We want to see a thorough and popular review of the most important aspects of modern democracy--with an eye toward developing a national consensus about what to do next.

Contributions to support this project and/or the Center's other work will be gratefully accepted and will be applied entirely to the purposes and projects described in these pages. Checks payable to The Center for the Evolution of Democracy can be mailed to:
