C. You come into being, proceed through life on an 8-fold path, and go out of being.

  1. Accepting the inevitability of death, you say:

Expect the impermanence of the body. Eschew the escape into organized religion. When your time comes, if possible, join others in saying goodby to your body. Extend your mind by entering peacefully into the minds of others.

  2. Asserting our existence, you say:

Enhance your body and your mind. Make your purposes known to the world. Without life there are no values, only physical forces. Recognize the value of each emotion, and bring it into accord with the purposes of your life. Assume responsibility for your own happiness. Remember: your values and your ultimate purpose are greater than your feelings in the moment. Prepare yourself each day for "first contact" with those of another sphere. I am, therefore, I will create.

  3. Working creatively with others, you say:

You are never alone...there are only degrees of relationship. Nurture creativity in others as you would have them nourish your own. Learn to love and be lovable. Transcend your Prisoner's Dilemma.

  4. Knowing each life is a model for other lives, you say:

Learn from all others...and teach. Each person, culture, and species is a repository of valuable information about the world...about yourself. Practice loving larger and larger sets of Others. Conserve your mind: learn general system theory. Surprise your own critic: Be an unforgettable model.

  5. Defining new rules and making plans, you say:

Create boundaries, then play with not within them. Plan your life story. Have fun with your plans. Create your own 8-fold path.

  6. Analyzing everything into parts, you say:

Understand each part on its own terms. Periodically, review yourself and those closest to you with empathic understanding. Practice your skills of self-observation and self-direction. Be artful in sentic cycles, autogenics, vipassana, "flow," and syntropic focus. Sedulously look up new words. Politely abstain from trivial conversation. Channel your energies into lifelong development for yourself, your loved ones, and your species. Practice the secret arts of democracy.

  7. Recreating our understanding of the whole world, you say:

Honestly receive the world as it is. Identify yourself with the best interests of humanity. Further the evolution of authentic democracy in every sphere. Avoid fashion and other ephemeral pursuits. Let each of your steps be a step toward greater love.

  8. While creating Ultimate Purpose, you say:

Be resolute, not absolute. Extend your life's goal beyond immediate groups and expected lifetimes. Integrate your futures of fate and desire. Envision Ultimate Being. Act always to further evolution toward Ultimate Being. Create an interesting future...be more than you can be...
